You’ll love Karijini’s gorgeous gorges!

If you’re looking for gorgeous gorges you’ve come to the right place!

Part of our 7-day Karijini National Park and Ningaloo Reef pack-free guided walk explores some of WA’s greatest gorges.

There are at least 11 gorges in Karijini and we will show you the best ones! Think deep chasms of cool banded iron rock, which seem to slash through the surface of the Earth – and with the Pilbara heat of the sun scorching above there’s refuge in the cool flowing streams, waterfalls and crystal pools below.

A narrow, tranquil river flowing between steep rocky cliffs offers a picturesque setting for Australian walking holidays. The water reflects rugged stone formations and sparse vegetation as the sun casts bright light on textured surfaces, highlighting earthy tones and crafting a serene, natural scene.

Here are some of our favourite gorges in Karinji National Park:

Hancock Gorge , Spider Walk & Kermit’s Pool: Take a journey to the ‘Centre of the Earth’ down this steep and narrow gorge which offers some of the best photographic opportunities in Karijini.

See the vertical canyon walls change from red-orange to bronze and blue-purple colours. Climb down the ladder, proceed along highly polished rock ledges and wade through streams on the way down to Kermit’s Pool, named for the water’s shade of green.

A stunning geological formation with layered rock walls surrounds a vibrant blue natural pool fed by a small waterfall. Ideal for walking holidays, the curved rocks create a dramatic, secluded canyon atmosphere, with lush greenery visible at the top.

Weano Gorge & Handrail Pool: Weano Gorge is perhaps the most accessible gorge in Karijini with a picnic area, barbeques, shaded seating and toilets. But this makes it no less spectacular and beautiful. Whether you want to enjoy breathtaking views, swim, explore the amazing gorges or rest among the spinifex and snappy gums, Weano is the place.

Joffre Gorge, Joffre Falls & Joffe Lookouts: Joffre Gorge is the closest gorge to the Karijini Eco Retreat, where you’ll be staying for three nights of your trip, reached by an easy bush walk.

A short track runs from the Retreat to a lookout with incredible views up and down Joffre Gorge. There is another lookout on the other side of the gorge, accessed from the carpark, which is a metal deck suspended above the gorge. This one overlooks the falls and the plunge pool at their base. You’ll love Karijini’s gorgeous gorges!

The other half of this tour explores the coastline along Exmouth and Ningaloo Reef where you’ll get to swim with whale sharks! But that’s another story…
