Why Flinders Island is Tassie’s best kept secret
Celebrated for its rugged natural beauty, Tassie’s Flinders Island is home to sweeping white sandy beaches, ancient granite peaks and an impressive variety of wildlife.
For anyone seeking a memorable walking holiday, Flinders offers far more than its modest size might suggest.
Our five-day pack-free guided walk takes you through several of the island’s striking national parks. Well maintained trails meander through verdant forests, peaceful coastal heathlands and dramatic shorelines shaped over millennia by wind and sea. With more than one hundred and twenty pristine beaches scattered around the island, it is well worth bringing your swimmers for a refreshing dip whenever the mood strikes.
A highlight of the journey is the climb to the summit of Mount Strzelecki, the island’s highest point. These granite peaks rise steeply to form the backbone of the surrounding national park, which occupies the south west corner of the island. This diverse landscape features some of Tasmania’s most beautiful beaches, a thick border of coastal tea tree, secluded pockets of rainforest and sweeping slabs of bare granite that tell ancient geological stories.
Another favourite location is Touser Point, a picturesque headland at the foot of the Strzelecki Peaks where round granite boulders lie scattered and the shoreline glows with vivid orange lichen.
You will spend four nights in comfortable and carefully maintained apartments in the town of Whitemark, allowing you to rest fully between days of adventure. And of course, no Life’s An Adventure tour would be complete without delicious meals and thoughtfully matched wines to end each day on a high note. Cheers!
We run a few scheduled tours from September to April every year which is the optimal time to walk in Tasmania. Shoulder months of September to early December, late January and April are great times to walk and come with the added benefit of being discounted by $100 per person.
