We know that when travelling with friends or family, everyone’s fitness level and walking experience can vary — and that’s completely okay. That’s why our itinerary is designed with flexibility in mind. Choose a scenic helicopter ride or wilderness cruise
Our walking experiences are thoughtfully curated to include unforgettable moments on every trail, from breathtaking landscapes to hidden spots that are often out of reach for day visitors.
On this tour, you’ll have the chance to cap off your adventure with an incredible scenic flight or cruise, both offering a new perspective on the stunning Tasman Peninsula.
Choose a thrilling helicopter flight with Rotor-Lift Aviation, soaring above the dramatic coastline and the capes you’ve explored on foot — Cape Hauy, Cape Pillar, Cape Raoul, the Three Capes Track, the Port Arthur Historic Site, and of course Tasman Island. From the sky, witness the awe-inspiring dolerite columns of The Candlestick and Totem Pole, along with Australia’s highest sea cliffs. The iconic Tasman Lighthouse, still in operation, marks the final turn for Sydney to Hobart yachts.
Alternatively, opt for a scenic wilderness cruise, giving you front-row views of the towering cliffs and rock formations from the ocean’s edge. Both experiences are a spectacular way to fully take in the raw beauty and scale of this remarkable coastline.

Main walking itinerary:
Enjoy an early breakfast at the hotel before meeting the group in the hotel reception area. Meet our guide and fellow travellers at 7:30am departure from Hobart, heading south-east towards the rugged beauty of the Tasman Peninsula. This remote corner of Tasmania is a biodiversity hotspot, home to over a third of the island’s native plant species — including more than 60 listed as threatened. As we make our way into Tasman National Park, you’ll walk through a patchwork of towering eucalypt forests, windswept sheoak groves and vibrant coastal heath. Today’s walk takes us out to the striking headland of Cape Raoul, known for its dramatic dolerite cliffs that plunge into the sea below. Along the way, you’ll take in jaw-dropping views across Storm Bay, catch glimpses of far-off Bruny Island, and marvel at Cape Pillar and remote Tasman Island standing sentinel on the horizon. Peer over the edge to spot Australian fur seals basking on the rocks far below — and if nature’s in the mood, you might even witness the thundering surf at the legendary Shipstern’s Bluff.
Shorter walk option:
Prefer a more relaxed pace? Enjoy a leisurely walk out to our scenic lunch spot along the Raoul Plateau, where sweeping views of the coast await. Take some time to unwind in nature while the rest of the group explores further, before reuniting on their return.
This evening, we settle into our home base at Stewart Bay Lodge for the next 2 nights. Nestled in tranquil bushland and just a short stroll from the water, it’s the perfect spot to recharge. There are sections near unfenced, sheer sea cliffs — care is required.
ITINERARY:
Main walking itinerary:
Following breakfast, we make our way to Waterfall Bay to tackle one of the most breathtaking walks on the peninsula. The Tasman Coastal Track offers a thrilling challenge and stunning scenery, often named by guests as the standout experience of their trip. We begin at the base of a dramatic 100-metre waterfall cascading into the ocean. From here, the trail gradually ascends through towering stringybark forest and into lush rainforest. A steeper climb brings us to the day’s highest point — Tatnels Hill — sitting at 548 metres. From the summit, the trail winds downhill and then follows a gently undulating path along the coastline. Spectacular sea cliffs dominate the landscape, offering incredible photo opportunities. This walk also features an impressive mix of habitats, providing a chance to spot wildlife like pademelons, wombats, echidnas, and Tasmania’s endemic bird species — including the rare swift parrot. At Fortescue Bay, keep an eye out for little penguins returning to shore at dusk.
Shorter walking option:
Today’s alternate walk allows guests to begin with the group before branching off to enjoy the peaceful Waterfall Bluff Lookout. The journey continues along the clifftops past geological wonders like Patterson’s Arch and Devil’s Kitchen, before finishing at the striking Tasman Arch. After lunch, guests can choose to explore the Port Arthur Historic Site (entry not included) or simply unwind at the lodge. The day concludes with a relaxing evening back at Stewarts Bay Lodge. Dinner is served at On the Bay Restaurant, where you’ll enjoy a delicious meal with wine, set against the calming backdrop of the bay.
TRANSFER TIMES:
Morning: Enjoy a 23-minute drive from your accommodation to the start of today’s trail.
Afternoon: After completing the walk, we travel approximately 1.5 hours back to Hobart.
MAIN WALK GRADE:
10km trail featuring steady inclines, descents, and plenty of steps along the way. A good fitness level is essential to complete this 4.5-hour walk, including rest stops. Rated as Medium difficulty.
EASIER OPTION:
6km version of the main trail. Although shorter, it still requires a good level of fitness. Expect to walk for around 3 hours with breaks.
TERRAIN:
The trail includes a mix of steep hill sections and flatter stretches. Most of the path is gravel and firm underfoot, with well-constructed stone steps throughout. Short boardwalk sections are also included. Be aware that parts of the trail run alongside unfenced sea cliffs. This is an out-and-back walk, retracing your steps on the return.
ITINERARY:
Following a relaxed breakfast, guests have the option to witness the dramatic Cape Pillar by either air or sea before taking on today’s walk to Cape Hauy. Those choosing the helicopter flight will be treated to breathtaking aerial views of Cape Pillar’s towering dolerite cliffs and the windswept Tasman Island, complete with its historic lighthouse. Afterwards, enjoy a sit-down lunch at the scenic Port Arthur Lavender Farm. Alternatively, guests can opt for a three-hour wilderness cruise, exploring the coastline around Cape Pillar and the famed Three Capes. Expect striking views of vertical sea cliffs, towering sea stacks, and possibly sightings of dolphins, whales, seals, or albatross. Those on the cruise will receive a delicious takeaway lunch prepared by the Lavender Farm.
Please note: Flights with Rotor-Lift Aviation are weather-dependent. If conditions do not permit flying, all guests will join the cruise instead. Guests will be notified of any changes before departure.
The Cape Hauy walk starts at Fortescue Bay, winding through picturesque coastal forest abundant with wildflowers. This rewarding hike includes many steps and leads out to dramatic cliff-edge lookouts. At the tip of the Cape, take in awe-inspiring views of the rock formations known as the Totem Pole, The Candlestick, and The Lanterns.
