Scenic Rim Walk

The Scenic Rim walk

A 3 day guided Pack-Free walk

The Scenic Rim is a chain of forested mountain ranges forming an expansive quarter circle ridge, that is part of the Great Dividing Range. The imposing rim of mountain ranges date back millions of years when they were created by volcanic activity. This activity caused the regions lush flora and fauna to flourish and provided fertile grounds for rainforests to prosper. The region boasts 6 National Parks with 4 of these National Parks declared World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforest of Australia areas. This 3-day pack free walk explores three of the most spectacular locations of the Scenic Rim including Main Range National Park, Moogereh Peaks National Park and the impressive Mount Barney. Exploring breathtaking mountain ridges, lush rainforests and ancient volcanic plateaus known for their breathtaking scenery this will be an unforgettable walking experience.

TRAIL NOTES: 4-5 hours walking with breaks. 12.4kms. Grade: Medium Grade

TERRAIN: Well formed trail. It is a sustained, zig-zagging ascent and consequently a steady, steep descent. There’s a few steps and some rocky, bouldery sections but nothing overly challenging. There are good views at the top but a couple of steep drop-offs near the summit, which give a feeling of exposure.

Day 3: Mt Mathieson, Main Range - Winery Lunch
Scenic Rim Walk

TRAIL NOTES: 4 hours with break. 8.1km. Grade: Medium

TERRAIN: Well formed trail. It is a sustained, zig-zagging ascent and consequently a steady, steep descent. There’s a few steps and some rocky, bouldery sections but nothing overly challenging.

WALK ITINERARY: Enjoy an early breakfast, featuring homegrown and local produce before we farewell our accommodation and head out for our last walking adventure. Today we head to Mt Mathieson, Main Range to take in the views of Cunninghams Gap from the natural lookouts along this rough trail through lofty eucalypts and lush rainforest. From the Pioneer picnic area the first part of the trail, to Mount Mathieson, is a gentle grade. From there the trail is more rugged and you’ll need to tackle quite steep, rocky and narrow sections. Learn about the early pioneering years from informative signs along the trail.
