At the top of the South Island of New Zealand in the Marlborough Sounds lies the stunning Queen Charlotte Track, stretching 70kms from historic Ship Cove to Anakiwa. Our spectacular 3-day walk showcases the best of this walking track through ancient beech forests, along fern-fringed coves and traversing ridgelines revealing breath-taking views of Queen Charlotte Sound and Kenepuru Sound. By private boat we reach the best sections of the trail each day, whilst at night we stay at the 5-star waterfront Bay of Many Coves Resort offering magnificent views, stunning local produce and superb Marlborough Sounds wines. With so much natural beauty, it’s no wonder the Queen Charlotte track attracts travellers from all over the world.

Meet your guides at 8.00am London Quay Wharf Picton this morning. From here we join our private boat for a water transfer through the stunning Queen Charlotte Sound to the start of our walk at Ship Cove. Today we walk in the footsteps of explorer Captain James Cook. Walking through magnificent virgin rainforests, you will emerge at the ridgeline for breathtaking views of Cooks Strait and Resolution Bay before descending to the sheltered shoreline of Endeavor Inlet.
From here our private boat awaits to take us to our accommodation for the next 2 nights the luxurious Bay of Many Coves Resort. Even from the water, as we first glimpse this lodge you can tell that this place is very special. Enjoy time to relax in your waterfront apartment soaking up the views, or take a swim before meeting the group for a sensational a la carte dinner featuring local produce and superb Marlborough Sounds wines.
After breakfast, we enjoy a scenic boat cruise to pretty Punga Cove to start our day’s walk, today we will traverse the ridge and walk into our accommodation. This is the most rewarding section of the journey, from the top of the ridge you will take in magnificent panoramas of the Sounds. We start our gradual climb out of Camp Bay to Kenepuru Saddle and follow the ridge separating Queen Charlotte Sound from Kenepuru Sound. The last section of our walk down to our accommodation is challenging, but we take our time and are rewarded with a Five-star resort waiting for us. Enjoy time to relax in your room, take a swim or simply soak up the views. Tonight the group comes together for dinner in the restaurant served with New Zealand’s fine wines and modern creative cuisine.
After breakfast, we join our private boat for our transfer to Endeavour Inlet, named after one of Captain James Cook’s ships. From Endeavour Inlet the track stays near the shoreline and wanders through regenerating forest rich in small bird life. The track continues around Big Bay, passing through native forest and traversing over low saddles offering amazing vantage points for the photographer. The gradual descent curls along the shoreline to Camp Cove.
Enjoy a late lunch at Furneaux Lodge while waiting for our private boat transfer through the Marlborough Sounds back to Picton, what a magnificent way to finish our 3-days of walking.
Note for those catching a ferry to Wellington tonight, the boat can drop you directly at the ferry terminal.
For those wanting more walking why not add on our 3-day Abel Tasman National Park walk.
