At the top of the South Island of New Zealand lies the spectacular Abel Tasman National Park, New Zealand’s smallest and most visited National Park. Our superb 4 day Pack Free walk showcases the best of the Abel Tasman Coast Track through landscapes of rich native forests, beautiful beaches and idyllic inlets. By private boat, we reach the best sections of the trail each day, whilst at night we stay at the secluded Awaroa Lodge offering magnificent views, stunning local produce and superb New Zealand wines.
NOTE: This tour includes an arrival day (including accommodation) and 3 days walking.
* This journey can be combined with our 3 day Queen Charlotte Track walk to create a 6 day New Zealand walking experience.
Carry as little as your water, camera and lunch
One of the biggest drawcards of this walk is that our guests won’t be asked to carry their clothes or overnight bags for the entire walk. This is a big advantage in you’ll avoid carrying an additional 8kg or more on your back every day. With Life’s An Adventure, carry as little as your water, camera and lunch.
Abel Tasman Kayaking experience
The wilderness reserve of Abel Tasman National Park reaches from Marahau in the south and Wainui in the north. As well as the many beautiful walking trails of this area, the coves and waters of this area are just as fascinating and home to New Zealand fur seal colonies. For an up-close experience, we have included a guided kayak tour from our accommodation for the chance to see these playful creatures.

The wonderful Harakeke Restaurant is a superb place to enjoy fine dining in the evenings, with its glass-walled conservatory offering stunning views over the wetlands. Organise your flights to arrive into Nelson anytime today. Nelson can be reached by flying from Christchurch or Wellington airports.
Welcome to Nelson, a city renowned for its arts and crafts, galleries and festivals. Tonight meet your guides at 7.00 pm for dinner in the Oceano Panorama Restaurant at the Rutherford Hotel Nelson. Offering a superb a la carte menu and wonderful local wines this is an excellent opportunity to get to know your fellow guests.
After a hot breakfast, transfer by minibus to the charming seaside town of Kaiteriteri. We join our boat and cruise along the stunning coastline of Abel Tasman National Park, taking in spectacular views of crystal clear aqua water, pretty coves and picturesque beaches along the way. We disembark at Anchorage, one of the most popular parts of the Able Tasman. We explore this magnificent trail as it meanders to beautiful Medlands Beach. We transfer then by boat to our accommodation, the secluded Awaroa Lodge, surrounded by pristine waterways and native forest. Enjoy time to relax before joining the group for a fabulous a la carte dinner in the Lodge’s restaurant featuring creative local produce, accompanied with fabulous New Zealand wines.
After breakfast, there is the option to kayak from the lodge on the stunning waters of this spectacular marine park. Local New Zealand fur seal colonies can often be seen frolicking in the waters on this journey, and it is one of the most memorable kayak tours of a lifetime. For those not wanting to join the kayak enjoy time to relax at the lodge.
We then all head by boat from the lodge to our walk to Bark Bay. From beautiful Barker Bay the trail ascends through forested headlands making its way to Tonga Bay and Onetahuti, a stunning beach surrounded by imposing granite headlands. We continue on, passing a historical Granite Quarry site and eventually make our way to Awaroa Lodge. Tonight the group comes together for dinner in the restaurant served with New Zealand’s fine wines and modern creative cuisine.
Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before transfering by boat to reach the golden beach of Totaranui where we disembark to start our walk. We cross a stunning granite headland above Skinners Point to reach Goat Bay and then head on to pretty Waiharakeke bay, the track crosses a substantial headland to the north end of Awaroa inlet, the largest in Able Tasman National Park and make our way back to the lodge where we collect our luggage. From here we join our boat transfer back to Kaiteriteri before joining our minibus back to Nelson arriving at approximately 6.45pm. The end of a remarkable journey.
