Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Mt Field National Park Walk
Lake Pedder Walk

Be met by your guides at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart at 7.30am. Our journey takes us westwards to our first stop at Mt Field National Park, one of Tasmania’s most loved National Parks.  Today we walk  to the Tarn Shelf, a series of pretty glacial lakes, where you can marvel at the unusual geology of the tarn, with the colours and crystal clear clarity of the water spectacular on a sunny day.  Guests will love the ever changing diverse scenery on this walk as we follow the undulating ridge lines, crossing beatiful streams, and taking in stunning views across the landscape dotted with waratah and boronia meadows.

Easier Option: As we have two guides, we do offer an easier version to this walk. Our shorter, easier walk is an enchanting 5.9km walk through a tall sheltered forest to beautiful Lady Barron Falls, Horseshoe Falls and Russell Falls. This walk showcases a superb array of diverse landscapes with all three falls a spectacular sight to see. The falls are surrounded by countless tall trees up to 80m in height and the tallest flowering plant on earth. Please note due to the easier walk being in a different location, those choosing this easier walk, will need to relax while the other group arrive back from their walk.

After our walk we continue to our accommodation for the next 2 nights  at the remote Lake Pedder Wilderness Resort. After freshening up, relax in in the lounge and bar area with fellow guests and chat about the day’s adventures, before enjoying a la carte dining in the restaurant served with Tasmanian wine.

Day 2: Mount Eliza & Eliza Plateau walk
Lake Pedder Walk

After breakfast we head to the start of our walking trail. Our walk today is stunning from the get go, as we enjoy a steady climb through button grass to Mount Eliza marvelling at frayed quartzite spurs and wildflowers strewn across a carpet of gold. After reaching High Camp Hut we climb up toward the sky and the everlasting mountainous views across what feels like half of Tasmania. Throughout the walk, one obtains an admiration for the stunning panoramas of the Franklin Range, the Federation Peak protruding from the Eastern Arthur Range, and where the original Lake Pedder lies beneath the depths of the mirrorlike surface of the water that now fills the valley. A further walk towards Eliza Plateau wanders through the picturesque alpine sceneries. Afterwards we return to our lodge for a wonderful evening dinner served with Tasmania wine.

Again as we have two guides, we can offer a slower and faster group for this walk.

Day 3: The Florentine Valley & Florentine River Walk
Lake Pedder Walk

Enjoy a hearty breakfast before setting out for our final day’s walking experience. Today we explore the Upper Florentine Valley, part of the South-West wilderness of Tasmania which is celebrated for its succulent wet sclerophyll and temperate forests, and is one of the greatest temperate wilderness areas on Earth. After years of dispute and protest amid forestry industry staff and environmental groups, the Florentine River Regional Reserve adjoined the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area in June 2013 as UNESCO officially recognised the environmental and cultural values of the area.  The lower canopy of the valley floor is dominated by an assortment of Sassafras, Leatherwoods, ferns, mosses, lichens and outcropping limestone, whilst this curtain of green is pierced by the trunks of some of the tallest trees on earth. Threatened species, such as the Tasmanian Wedge-Tailed Eagle, the Spotted-Tail Quoll, and the White Goshawk, find important habitat in the old growth forests that are still left in the Upper Florentine Valley. Afterwards we return to Hobart the end of a remarkable journey.
