Guests will need to organise their own international flights to Japan with Toyko the closest main international airport. To get to Hachinohe, guests should travel on Shinkansen (Bullet train) from Toyko, taking 2 hours and 45 mins.
Itinerary: Make your own way to your accommodation at the Hachinohe Grand Hotel in Hachinohe for the next 2 nights. As today is an arrival day, arrive at any time as no activities are planned. This afternoon meet your guides in the foyer of the hotel for a welcome talk followed by dinner in a local restaurant.

Itinerary: Today promises a captivating start to your adventure. Meet your guides in the foyer of the Hachinohe Grand Hotel at 8.00am. A private transfer whisks us to the start of our walk at Kabushima Shrine. Located on a small hill overlooking the sea, the shrine is dedicated to Benzaiten, the goddess of fortune and wisdom. The shrine is particularly famous for the thousands of black-tailed gulls that nest in the area, creating a unique and lively atmosphere and is the official starting point of the Michinoku Coastal Trail. From here we start our coastal trek, marvelling at breathtaking coastal views of rocky outcrops, grasslands, craggy reefs and sandy beaches. Upon arrival in the quaint fishing port of Tanesashi, we meet a local fisherman and then delight in the freshest local seafood with dockside delicacies that are a true taste of the region. After lunch we continue along the coastal exploration with a 5km afternoon hike, soaking in serene views and charming rest stops. Return to the Hachinohe Grand Hotel with free time to relax. Tonight we head out for an unforgettable night in Hachinohe, we explore a yokocho, a lively lane filled with Japanese bars, restaurants and izakayas, sampling tapas-style Japanese dishes at various spots for a unique and entertaining evening.

ITINERARY: This morning, enjoy breakfast at the hotel before embarking on our day’s adventure. We’ll transfer in our private vehicle to the Takonoki Walkway, where our coastal trek begins. Our journey will take us through charming forests of red pine trees across rivers, along serene beaches, and over mountain passes, showcasing a remarkable blend of rugged rocky outcrops and stunning ocean vistas. We make our way to the beautiful Itsukushima-jinja Shrine, adorned with multiple torii gates and featuring intricately carved wooden dragons and lions on its crossbeams. The shrine also offers breathtaking views of Ushijima Island. After our walk, we’ll head to our next accommodation, the exquisite Hotel Ragaso, renowned for its spectacular ocean views and relaxing onsen. This evening, indulge in a superb dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, accompanied by your choice of sake, beer, or soft drinks.
TERRAIN: Varied terrain including coastal paths, rugged cliffs, and forested areas. Features steep ascents and descents, with some challenging sections up log stairs and along the cliff edges. The trail offers gentle stretches as well as elevated viewpoints with dramatic ocean views.

ITINERARY: This morning we enjoy breakfast at the hotel before we transfer with our private vehicles to Fundai Beach where our walk begins. The trail today follows the coastline on Japan’s Sanriku Coast, famed for its dramatic cliffs, rugged coastline, and panoramic vistas, offering visitors awe-inspiring natural beauty and unforgettable ocean views. We begin with a delightful start where you will admire the intricate rocky cliffs dramatically contrasting against the striking Japanese red pine forest. While challenging, the next section of the trail is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable. We cross streams and plunge into quiet forests as we make our over Kitayamazaki cliffs known as the Ocean Alps, described as one of the finest views in Japan. Later we will immerse ourselves in a traditional salt-making experience, where you’ll learn the ancient art of extracting salt from seawater using age-old techniques. This hands-on activity provides a unique insight into the local culture, allowing you to take home a piece of Japan’s coastal heritage. Tonight, enjoy a superb dinner accompanied with sake rice wine, beer or soft drink at our hotel.

ITINERARY: This morning we enjoy breakfast at the hotel before we transfer with our private vehicles to the start of our walk at the Kitayamazaki Visitors Centre. We continue our walk along the scenic coast Walking from Kitayamazaki to Hotel Ragaso on the Michinoku Coastal Trail is an unforgettable journey through some of Japan’s most breathtaking coastal scenery. As you traverse this segment, you’ll be greeted by dramatic cliffs that plunge into the Pacific Ocean, with panoramic vistas that change with every step. The trail winds through lush forests, serene seaside villages, and several mysterious hand dug tunnels that cut through the cliffs such as the Yama no Tunnel and the Oshima Tunnel. These tunnels, some dating back over a century, with their cool, damp interiors and echoing footsteps, offer a mysterious and captivating experience. The light at the end of each tunnel reveals stunning coastal views, creating a striking contrast to the dim passageways. As you continue your journey along the Michinoku Coastal Trail, you’ll pass by quaint fishermen’s huts, their weathered facades telling tales of a timeless maritime tradition and offering a glimpse into the daily lives of the coastal community. Here, you’ll enjoy a delightful lunch, savouring fresh, locally produce while soaking in the serene coastal atmosphere. Our walk today concludes at our hotel. This afternoon we embark on a Kitayamazaki Cliff Cruise, gliding beneath soaring 200-metre-high sea cliffs and past Tanohata’s striking rock formations for a breathtaking perspective of this rugged coastline. We begin our day with a scenic coastal walk around Jodogahama Beach, renowned for its white pebble shore, crystal-clear waters, and dramatic rocky islands. Part of the Sanriku Recovery National Park and celebrated as one of Japan’s top beaches, Jodogahama’s serene setting embodies the profound beauty that inspired its name, “Pure Land”, a reflection of the Buddhist concept of paradise. The walk offers superb viewpoints over the coastline, where pine-clad cliffs rise sharply from the sea, and the air is filled with the scent of salt and forest. This afternoon, we see this spectacular coastline from a new perspective as we join a coastal cruise around the Jodogahama cliffs. From the water, the striking rock formations and azure coves reveal an entirely different side of this breathtaking landscape, offering wonderful opportunities for photography and reflection.

ITINERARY: This morning we enjoy breakfast at the hotel before we transfer by private vehicle along the way stopping at Shiome Memorial Park before starting our walk today along the Kurosaki Coast. Walking the Kurosaki Coast reveals a stunning blend of rugged cliffs and serene seascapes, offering breathtaking views and a peaceful retreat into nature. This scenic walk features a unique rock formation called the Anatoshi-iso Rock featuring three natural arches shaped by the ocean. Enroute we stop at Kurosaki Senkyo Onsen where you can enjoy a delightful lunch and a soothing dip in the hot springs. Continue your adventure with a hike along the Goishi Coast through forests of pine and cypress trees. Later we head to our new accommodation at the Ofunato Onsen offering dramatic coastal views. ITINERARY: Start your final day on the Michinoku Coastal Trail with a transfer to Ogama, setting the stage for the day’s highlight. Embark on a 7km walk to Osaki Lighthouse, exploring the scenic Ogama and Kannakura Tsunami Rocks along the way, culminating in the iconic lighthouse that stands as a beacon of maritime history. After your invigorating hike, enjoy a delicious lunch at Karakuwa Marusan, where you can savour local flavours and recharge. Following lunch, transfer to Sendai, a 2-hour and 10-minute journey that provides time to reflect on your adventure. Conclude your tour with a drop-off at the Mitsui Garden Hotel Sendai, where you can cherish the incredible memories made throughout your exploration of Japan’s stunning coastline.es
