Enjoy a hearty breakfast before we head out on our walk. Today our walk takes us to Tanderra Saddle one of the iconic walks of the Flinders Ranges. This walk is a shorter section of the 9-hour steep St Mary Peak hike, but just as rewarding as if offers spectacular views. The hike begins climbing through forests and as the elevation increases you are rewarded with a spectacular view of the Pound, salt lakes and St Marys Peak. From the top of the saddle, you will be able to appreciate the huge size of the pound and the surrounding Heysen and ABC Ranges. Please note the indigenous Adnyamathanha people request that visitors do not climb St Marys Peak, therefore out of respect, we only travel to the Tanderra Saddle below. Afterwards, we return to our accommodation and enjoy a superb dinner in the Woolshed Restaurant with local wines. The end of another remarkable day.
After breakfast, we head out on our next walking adventure. Today’s walk takes us to Brachina Gorge with its spectacular ridges of quartzite. Walk into the Aroona Valley. See some ruins of a historic homestead and out onto a ridgeline that offers extensive views over the central Flinders Ranges. Brachina Gorge is extremely picturesque with winding river beds and an abundance of geological formations to marvel at. This gorge is home to the Yellow-footed rock wallabies in Australia which can often be seen basking on the rocky outcrops.
