Fascinating Flinders Island, located in Bass Strait above Tasmania, is famous for its tranquillity, unspoilt natural landscapes and abundance of wildlife. On this 5 day walking holiday you’ll witness breathtaking views from the top of the impressive granite summit of Mt Strzelecki and explore the island’s unique National Parks as we discover the best walking trails on offer. With 120 pristine beaches, more than 65 shipwrecks and rugged mountains rising from the sea, there are few better places to visit. We’ve carefully designed our Flinders Island walk so you’ll experience the beauty of this island in just 5 days. Only a short flight from Melbourne or Launceston you’ll find this amazing walking holiday a must-do experience.

We call our guides… CEOs – Chief Experience Officers and it’s their job to ensure your tour exceeds your expectations.
Accompanied with Tasmania wines

Our 5 day Flinders Island walk is designed for those who want to walk without carrying heavy overnight bags and who are simply after a walk where we take care of you. Our all-inclusive package includes:
FLIGHTS: Book your flight from either Melbourne or Launceston to Flinders Island.
TRANSFERS: Airport transfers to your accommodation (10 minutes drive) will be arranged for a time to match your arrival time.
TRAIL NOTES: 2 hours walking with breaks. 2kms. Easy Grade.
TERRAIN: Relatively flat walking, with short rocky sections. Steep cliffs adjacent to the track in some sections.
WALK ITINERARY: After arriving enjoy some time at leisure. At 3.15pm meet our guides in the lounge area of the accommodation as we head out for an afternoon walk and the first look at this spectacular island. Our walk takes us to Trousers Point to see some of the peninsula’s most impressive geological features – this short walk is nothing short of amazing. Trousers Point is popular for two stunning beaches, unique rock features and beautiful panoramas to Mount Strzelecki and off-shore islands. Trousers Point Beach, with sparkling waters, large stretches of white sand and a mountain climbing from the ocean, is the most praised beach on Flinders Island. On the opposite side of Trousers Point Beach lies Fotheringate Bay. Fotheringate Bay has beautiful granite caves shaped by emerging groundwater, marine erosion and alveolar weathering of cliffs. Afterwards, we return to our accommodation with time to freshen up before enjoying a wonderful dinner at the lodge.
TRAIL NOTES: Approximately 12kms (4-5 hours walking with breaks). Walking Grade: Easy to Medium. Moderate degree of fitness required.
TERRAIN: A natural trail that meanders through coastal heath and along beaches (firm and soft sand). Some sections of climbing on beach rocks. Largely flat walking.
WALK ITINERARY: Enjoy a hearty breakfast before we head out to explore the historic settlement point area. The walk starts at Sawyer’s Bay, with some boulder hopping and beach walking. We’ll see the old Cemetery and Historic church, plus we will visit the Furneaux Historical museum to learn about the explorers, sealers and early settlers of the island. After lunch, we hike across the peninsula to Castle Rock on Marshall Bay, one of the Island’s iconic landmarks. For the more adventurous some sand surfing is the only way to end our day. After our day’s walk, we transfer to Mountain Seas Wilderness Retreat, our accommodation at the foot of Mt Strzelecki near Trousers Point, with its stunning mountain and sea views. Enjoy dinner tonight at the Retreat chatting about the day’s adventures.
TRAIL NOTES: Approximately 7.5 kms (3.5-5 hours walking with breaks). Easy to Medium. Moderate degree of fitness required.
TERRAIN: Some sections of climbing on beach rocks along the coast. Sandy tracks and beach walking on soft and hard sand. Mainly flat walking but some short ups and downs.
WALK ITINERARY: After breakfast, we drive to the tiny fishing township of Killiecrankie along the way enjoy the scenic landscapes of Flinders Island we pass. The locals are friendly (760 in total) it’s an easy pace of life and its full of fresh air. Today’s walk is along the spectacular Killiecrankie Coast to the Dock– named for its natural rock formations. A great walk with rocky gulches backed by the cliff of Mount Killiecrankie and dramatic views out to sea. We make sure we have enough time to stop at Stacky’s Bight, a perfect swimming spot. Afterwards, we return to our accommodation for dinner in their restaurant and chat about our day’s adventures with the group.
TRAIL NOTES: Approximately 5kms (4-5 hours walking with breaks). Easier Option: Palana to Holloway Point. 10kms. 4-6 hours with breaks. Medium to Hard grade. Mount Strzelecki requires respect and moderate degree of fitness required. Easy Option: Trousers Point Circuit: Easy grade
TERRAIN: Includes two hours of steep uphill at the start of the day. Total climb for the day is 753 metres. Terrain is a combination of well-formed natural trail, rock scrambling and walking up and down granite slabs but nothing technically difficult.
WALK ITINERARY: This morning enjoy a superb breakfast before heading to the trail. Today you will feel a real sense of achievement by walking up to beautiful Mount Strzelecki, unquestionably the highlight of walking in the Furneaux group. The view from the summit is exceptional with many good viewpoints along the way. Strzelecki National Park is small in area but has some great ridges and impressive rock peaks and we climb the highest of these at 753 metres.
FLEXIBLE WALKING OPTION: For those not up to the challenge of Mt Strzelecki, we have a shorter walking option today from Paland to Holloway Point on the Northern Shores of the Island. We start at the lovely Palana Beach. Palana Beach is a much-loved meeting place for locals and regular visitors to Flinders Island. You may find the ‘Chinese fingernails’ along this section of the coast. The spectacular views of the Sister Islands enrich the experience. During today’s walk, there is no track. So, we meander through rocky headlands covered in bright orange lichen and small areas of unspoiled sandy beaches. A highlight of the walk is watching the speed at which the water flows into the river mouth of North East River.
Afterwards, we return to our accommodation for a superb dinner served with Tasmania wine.
