We meander through this rainforest wonderland as we make our way to magnificent Minyon Falls a 100m waterfall that plunges over the dramatic Nightcap escarpment. In springtime, look out for Peregrine Falcons, that often nest in the cliffs near the falls. An array of birdlife in the rainforest are also sure to delight and you may be lucky enough to see a satin bowerbird. Whilst the streams are home to a number of threatened frogs barking their charming chorus. On the way keep watch for the mystical lyrebird or a pademelon – one of our smallest macropods. This track also forms part of the old 1840s postman’s track, that ran between Lismore and Murwillumbah and was used by both postal workers and travellers alike. We explore a diverse landscape of wet sclerophyll forest and subtropical and warm temperate rainforests with native animal species thriving in these rainforests including the spotted-tailed quolls, pademelons and potoroos, as well as a variety of birdlife such as king parrots and Albert’s lyrebird. As the trail climb over mountain ranges, it offers spectacular views of the escarpment of Nightcap National Park, Mount Warning and the Tweed Caldera, a bowl-shaped depression caused by the collapse of a volcanic cone which erupted over 20 million years ago and is one of the largest calderas in the world. Alternative day two walk.
