A Pack Free Walking Experience

Carry as little as your water and lunch

One of the biggest drawcards of this walk is that our guests won’t be asked to carry their clothes, food or overnight bags for the entire walk. This is a big advantage in that you will avoid carrying an additional 8kg or more on your back. With Life’s An Adventure, you will carry as little as your water bottle, lunch and camera each day.

Scenic Flight into the Bungles

Save 4 hours of driving

Typically, reaching the Bungles entails a 4-hour journey from Kununurra, with 2 of those hours on rough bumpy terrain. In order to ensure your utmost enjoyment of this unique destination, we’ve included a flight from Kununurra into the Bungles. An added advantage of this arrangement is that you’ll have the opportunity to view the Bungles and Purnululu National Park from an aerial perspective, allowing you to fully grasp the magnitude and grandeur of this spectacular region.

Optional Heli-Hiking Experience

Explore the remote Bungles

Our journey has the option to include a spectacular heli-hiking experience in the Bungles to explore the upper reaches of Piccaninny Gorge. To experience this area, would normally take 3 days hiking with overnight camping supplies in a heavy pack. (Including one day to reach the mouth of the gorge, then another day to explore the gorge and then another day to retrace your steps and hike back to the start). With OUR journey we will access this area in a day with our helicopter dropping us at the mouth of the gorge, allowing us the day to explore the best areas of this enormous gorge, that cuts through the Bungle Range. The helicopter will then pick us up for a unique return journey.

A good suggestion is to visit the local indigenous gallery or diamond shops that sell the rare Argyle Pink Diamonds. This morning we are up early to fly directly down to explore the Bungle Bungles (flight included in the tour). We will depart Kununurra for a stunning flight taking in views of Argyle, the Carr Boyd Ranges, and the Bungles on a small plane to Purnululu National Park. The luxury of us flying saves us around 4 hours of rugged road travel and allows us to enjoy a smooth, scenic flight to one of Australia’s World Heritage Sites. The Bungle Bungle Range is an intricate maze of beehive-shaped peaks, narrow gorges lined with majestic Livistonia fan palms and soaring cliffs with seasonal waterfalls and rock pools. After lunch, we enjoy an afternoon walk into the Bungle Bungles exploring the Southern Region of Purnululu National Park. Our walk takes us past banded domes towering majestically around you. We head to stunning Cathedral Gorge a spectacular natural amphitheatre with a pool reflecting the soaring sandstone beehives guarding the entrance.

This afternoon we arrive at our accommodation at the Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge where we stay in modern cabins with ensuites. Enjoy time to cool off with a refreshing swim in the pool or relax on the outdoor deck and enjoy pre-dinner drinks (own expense). 6 Day Kimberley, Bungles & Beyond Walk (Bungles & El Questro)

This morning we are up early to have breakfast. Today you have the choice of two Bungles experiences. See pricing page for Tour options.

Whip Snake Gorge walk hike
Our guides will take the group on a 10km walk to pretty Whip Snake Gorge. Follow the Piccaninny Creek sculptured dry track through the striped bungles formations until we reach Whip Snake Gorge, a narrow gorge filled with ferns, with a rock pool at the end.

OPTIONAL: Heli-Hiking Experience
We join our helicopter and fly over the Bungle Bungles and land in the heart of the Bungles. This area of the gorge is set deep inside the Bungle Domes and normally takes 3 days round trip to access. On our journey, the helicopter drops us at the mouth of the gorge, allowing us the day to explore the best of this enormous gorge that spreads into five fingers as it cuts through the Bungle Bungle Range. Your guide will lead the hike into the gorge and tell you about the area’s cultural significance to the indigenous people and its unique history. After our walk, we fly back by helicopter and transfer to our accommodation in the Bungles. Enjoy a swim and a relaxing dinner with your newfound friends.

Afterwards, both groups return to the Bungles Savannah Lodge for a swim before enjoying our evening meal served with Australian wine.

Day 4: Bungles - Northern Region
6 Day Kimberley, Bungles & Beyond Walk (Bungles & El Questro)

This morning we enjoy an early morning start and head to the Northern Region of the Bungles for our morning walk. Our walking tour today takes us to Echidna Gorge and Mini Palms Gorge. We start with a walk into Echidna Gorge a spectacular 200m gorge with varying hues. The Gorge takes its name from echidna found nearby. We head along a dry pebbly creek bed to the entrance of the chasm, passing Livistonia palms that grow along the banks. We head through the impressive chasm taking in the dramatic views of the sheer cliff walls. We then head to Mini Palms Gorge over sand and spinifex along the base of the main range. This walk features soaring cliffs, dramatic palms and a natural amphitheatre and cave. A gentle breeze in the cave comes from the hidden opening of an inaccessible gorge upstream. The magnificent contrasts of the red cliffs and green palms make for a dramatic view. After lunch, we drive to El Questro in the eastern Kimberley. Enjoy the comfort of a modern garden or river view bungalows with ensuites. Enjoy pre-dinner drinks and live entertainment in the outdoor bar (own expense) before joining the group in the Verandah Restaurant for dinner, taking in views of the Pentecost River.

Day 5: Champagne Springs Walk & El Questro Gorge Walk
6 Day Kimberley, Bungles & Beyond Walk (Bungles & El Questro)

Enjoy early morning breakfast at the beautiful Verandah Restaurant. Today we will walk to beautiful Champagne Springs named after the thermal springs that can be found at the end of this walk. This walk features sheer cliffs on the western and northern side that rise up to 375m and are mostly made up of ancient sandstone. At the end of the walk enjoy a dip in the beautiful freshwater pools surrounded by lush vegetation. Afterwards, we return to El Questro for a delicious lunch.

In the afternoon, relax at El Questro Station, or join a later afternoon walk to El Questro Gorge. This trail passes along a gorge flanked by sheer cliffs lush tropical vegetation and crystal clear pools. Under the rainforest canopy, a diverse ecosystem thrives and the surrounding cliff faces are up to 1800 million years old and known as King Leopold sandstone. When we reach the end, cool off in the pretty waterhole before tracing our steps. Notes: Walks in this region, will depend on the conditions and may be adjusted to suit.
