The trail up Mt Hassell has fewer steps than some of the other peaks, beginning gently and then followed by steeper sections of scree. At a height of 700 metres there is a large flat rock, beyond which the trail becomes steeper and requires some rock scrambling. Ripple marks can be seen on the rocks on Mt Hassell, evidence that the ranges were once covered by a shallow sea. As with all of the peaks in the Stirling Ranges, wildlfowers are to be seen most of the year. After our walkers lunch we drive a short distance to Talyuberlup trailhead Walk, the most dramatic rocky peak in the Stirling Ranges. Whilst only 783 metres high, it has been described as having a castle-like summit. The trail firstly winds through an area of low woodland and further on rises steeply up a gully before it heads for the base of the cliffs and then along a cliff line. It enters a large cave underneath the summit, from where you emerge onto the peak of Talyuberlup. Another day of spectacular vistas and incredible walks we’ll head back to Kendenup Lodge and Cottages for our final night and enjoy dinner whilst reminiscing about our experiences.
