Threatened eastern bristlebirds released in Wilsons Prom – and you might be able to spot them!

Jun 09, 2023

After months of careful planning, ten more eastern bristlebirds have been released into their new home at Victoria’s Wilsons Promontory National Park.

And you might be able to spot them on our 3-day Wilsons Promontory or 6-day Wilsons Promontory and East Gippsland pack-free guided walks.

Parks Victoria says the delicate translocation is part of a three-year program to secure the future of this nationally threatened species.

Until the Wilsons Promontory population was established in 2022, the entire eastern bristlebird population was restricted to just three geographically separated regions across the east coast of Australia.

So what’s Wilsons Prom like?

Covering over 50,000 hectares this national park is a landscape of rugged granite mountains, lush rainforests, pristine beaches and stunning coastline.

Fringing the coastline also lies the Wilson Promontory Marine National Park which protects a network of underwater rocky reefs, colourful sponge gardens as well as offshore islands that support colonies of fur seals and penguins.

Our 3-day walk has been designed so you can experience a range of landscapes in the national park from the mountains to the sea.

On land, you will enjoy a range of walking experiences discovering the spectacular landscapes of the north, west and east. We will also explore the Marine National Park by boat, to fully appreciate its beauty and grandeur.

Our 6-day tour covers the above plus East Gippsland’s beautiful national parks and reserves which are among the best in the world.

Super Earlybird savings of up to $1000 per couple or $500 per person are available on both tours when you book and pay in full for next season’s departures.
