The Cave You Don’t Just Find… You’re Taken To

Apr 28, 2026

Tucked along the rugged coastline of Fiji’s Yasawa Islands lies a place few travellers ever truly experience. Alright, this is where the adventure really begins.

We’re inside the first chamber of the Sawa-i-Lau Caves now… but what most people don’t realise is there’s a second, hidden chamber just beyond. You won’t find signs to it. You won’t stumble across it on your own.

It’s one of those places you only experience if you know the right people… and you’re willing to take that small step. All it takes is a short swim under the rock, just a few metres, and I’ll be right here with you the whole way. And then you’re in. It’s quieter, more still, almost like the island has kept this part just for a few. And this is where the stories really come alive.

Local legend speaks of a powerful spirit, the ten headed god Ulutini, said to live deep within these caves. He’s known as a protector, watching over the waters and those who enter with respect. For generations, this place hasn’t just been a natural wonder, it’s been something sacred.

There’s also the story of a young princess who once hid here to escape an arranged marriage. Rather than accept a life chosen for her, she fled into these caves, choosing the unknown, trusting the protection of this place. Some say her spirit never truly left, that this chamber still holds that sense of courage and quiet defiance.

When you’re in there, you can feel it.

It’s not just what you see, it’s what this place represents. Mystery, protection, and a story that’s been passed down long before any of us arrived.

That’s what makes this moment special. It’s not something everyone does. But it’s something you’ll never forget.
