South West Coast Path’s 50th year celebrated with 50 sketches

To celebrate England’s famous South West Coast Path turning 50 a well-known artist has painted 50 scenes along the walk.

The stunning 1,014 km coastal path, stretching from Dorset’s picturesque Studland Bay to Minehead on Somerset’s north coast, encompasses some of the UK’s most awe-inspiring landscapes. Along its length, hikers are treated to sweeping views, dramatic cliffs, and varied wildlife, making it a true gem for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

To commemorate 50 years since the vision to establish a continuous coast path began, artist Emma Scattergood produced 50 unique works. These pieces celebrate the path’s heritage and showcase the journey’s natural beauty, as well as the efforts made over the decades to complete and maintain this iconic route. Through her art, Scattergood brings to life the spirit of the coast path, paying tribute to the enduring appeal of this remarkable stretch of coastline and the dedication that has made it possible.

She told  the BBC her experience was “absolutely brilliant and life-changing”.
