NSW Blue Mountains ranked world’s third “happiest” place to hike

Apr 11, 2024

According to a recent AI analysis, the spectacular mountainous region just outside of Sydney is third on a global list of the happiest places on Earth to hike.

Makes sense, considering the beautiful nature, and the range of tracks suitable for all levels.

The analysis was carried out by UK-based travel company Inghams, who used smile-recognition software to analyse hundreds of Instagram posts and determine which walking trails are home to the most smiles.

The data was used to determine overall enjoyment scores for each hiking area, with the Blue Mountains scoring an overall enjoyment score of 89.38.

This walk journeys from Katoomba in the Blue Mountains to Jenolan Caves. Winding through State forests and national parks, the Six Foot Track walk follows the 44km route of the original 1884 bridle track.

We explore native bushland, lush rainforests, rolling green hills, and traverse along the pretty Coxs River.

Blue Mountains walks

On night one we spend the night at the remote and quirky Six Foot Track Eco Bunkhouse on the beautiful Coxs River.

We have chosen this accommodation for convenience, as the Six Foot Track trail runs right past the bunkhouse and the only other accommodation in the area, is over an hour’s drive away.

Normally accommodation on night two is at the historic and iconic Jenolan Caves House. However it is closed for renovations so we are staying at the history Black Gold Motel built in 1881.

The second tour, for private groups only, is our 4-day Great Blue Mountains Traverse pack-free guided walk.

On this fantastic walk we traverse the great Blue Mountains from Blackheath to Wentworth Falls walking the most beautiful trails.

Discover the lush fern gullies of the Grand Canyon, take in the stunning views from the rocky outcrop of Ruined Castle and be amazed by the Valley of Waterfalls at Wentworth Falls.
