A Colorado man is facing big fines and possible jail time after he landed a helicopter on a remote beach on the shore of Jackson Lake in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park so he could have a picnic!

According to a National Park Service (NPS) press release, park rangers were alerted to the illegal landing and issued Peter Smith of Gunnison, Colorado two federal citations. Rangers said they found Smith and a woman lunching by the lake in an area that’s only accessible by boat or a 16km hike, and Smith’s aircraft was parked next to them on the gravel.

Now this isn’t something you need to worry about on any helicopter rides included in your pack-free guided walks with us!

We love to give you a ‘Wow!’ moment and nothing says that like a scenic heli-ride looking at where you’ve been walking from the air.

Case-in-point the helicopter option on our 3-day Walk Three Capes pack-free guided walk. The aerial views of Cape Pillar and the Tasman National Park are spectacular!

Or the helicopter flight on our 4-day Cape to Cape, in WA’s Margaret River region.

On day four after walking from Bob’s Hollow to Contos Beach – possibly the most impressive section of the Cape to Cape Track – a helicopter will land on the beach and whisk you off to enjoy a scenic fight and then land outside a local winery!

Or even better still, the heli-hike into Picaninny Gorge in Purnululu National Park (a place which is only normally accessible on a 3-day hike with a heavy pack).

Part of our 7-day Kimberley Explorer Walk, the helicopter drops you off deep in the gorge and you’ll spend the day exploring this ancient area before the helicopter comes back and collect you. You won’t forget tat trip in a hurry!
