Another Frequent Walker wins a free trip!

Here’s another one of our guests who has won a free walking holiday through our Frequent Walkers Program.

Patricia Woon takes five with Life’s An Adventure.

Where did you grow up?
I am a Queenslander through and through!

Have you always enjoyed being in the great outdoors?
Yes, I have always been an outdoors sort of person. I rode horses in my youth. My first hike was NZ’s Milford Track in 2004, followed by The Grand Traverse (Milford and Routeburn tracks combined) the following year. I completed the Overland Track in 2013.

 

Tell us about your pack-free guided walks.
My first walk was Freycinet in 2013. I liked the idea of it being pack-free, the guides were very friendly and knowledgeable, and the food and wine was glorious. After that I was hooked!

So, what walks have you done with us?

• 2013: Freycinet, Tas. Barry and Sarah were the guides.
• 2013: Bay of Fires, Tas. Barry and Sarah were the guides there too.
• 2015: Maria Island, Tas. Geoff was the guide.
• 2016: Bruny Island, Tas. Barry was the guide.
• 2017: Three Capes, Tas. Geoff was the guide.
• 2017: Flinders Island, Tas.
• 2018: Bay of Fires, Tas (for the second time!)
• 2019: Tarkine Wilderness, Tas. Geoff and Greg were the guides.
• 2020: Cradle Mountain/Walls of Jerusalem, Tas. Barry and Greg were the guides.
• 2021: Kosciuszko National Park, NSW. Peter was the guide.
• 2021: Lake Pedder, Tas. Geoff and Greg were the guides.
• 2021: Uluru, NT. Danny was the guide.
• 2023: Lake St Clair/Cradle Mountain, Tas. Nay and Glen were the guides.
• 2024: Mornington Peninsula, Vic. Moira was the guide.

 

 

As you can see, I have had a number of guides, and they have all been great. I like the fact that we stop and have a cup of tea for morning tea and a lovely glass of wine with our meal. I also love the food and the conversation.

Do you have any favourite memories from our walks?
When I did the 2020 Cradle Mountain Walk, guides Greg and Barry included a little wine tasting for us at the accommodation. It was lovely. On the same walk only three of us managed to make it to the top of Cradle Mountain and I was the oldest on the walk!

 

Afterwards my roommate said that she would have turned back before the summit but she could not live with herself if her older roommate made it, and she didn’t!

Also, on that walk we three ladies who made it to the top were very tired on the way back. Barry asked if there was anything he could do to assist us. I remembered from 2013 that Barry is a good singer, so he sang to us to make the trek easier. It was lovely.

 

 

Do you have any stories of our guides going out of their way to help?
On my 2023 walk to Lake St Clair, the sole fell off my shoe on day 2 at the top of the mountain. I had quite a few days of walking ahead of me and no shoes! From the top of the mountain Nay rang Anaconda and ordered me a new pair of shoes (My phone did not have reception).

She organised for another guide who was not working that day to pick up the boots and deliver them to the hotel in Launceston. The hikers who were not doing Lake St Clair but only Cradle Mountain were meeting there before joining us at Credle Mountain.

These hikers brought my new boots to me at Cradle Mountain. In the meantime, another hiker who had nothing to do with us gave me her old boots to wear until the new ones arrived…. It was an adventurous trip! These are just a few examples of the professionalism of the Life’s An Adventure guides.
