Have a whale of a time on the Light to Light Walk
Between May and November each year, more than 40,000 whales leave the icy waters of Antarctica and make an epic journey along Australia’s east coast. Their destination? Warmer, food-rich waters where they can rest, feed, and give birth.
Among these gentle giants are humpback and southern right whales, known for their acrobatic displays—breaching, tail-slapping, and rolling through the waves. Whether you spot them from a clifftop or a boat, the experience is nothing short of magical.

Whale watching is just one of the unforgettable highlights on our 4-day, pack-free Light to Light Walk along the Sapphire Coast of New South Wales.
This 30km guided journey traces a dramatic stretch of coastline between two iconic landmarks—Boyds Tower and Green Cape Lighthouse. As you walk, you’ll be immersed in a landscape of extraordinary natural contrasts: striking 320-million-year-old red rock formations, secluded beaches, and lush coastal forests teeming with wildlife.
Each day is an adventure, and each evening brings comfort and relaxation. You’ll stay at the historic Sea Horse Boutique Hotel, where warm hospitality and elegant accommodations offer the perfect end to a day spent exploring the outdoors.
But it’s the whales that truly steal the show — especially from late September, when mothers and calves gather close to shore to feed and rest before making the long journey south again. The NSW South Coast is one of the best places in the country to see them up close, thanks to its nutrient-rich waters and protected bays.
This is more than just a walk—it’s a chance to connect deeply with nature, witness awe-inspiring wildlife, and explore one of Australia’s most stunning coastal regions in comfort and style. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or simply a nature lover, the Light to Light Walk offers a unique opportunity to see the coast—and the whales—like never before.
