Guest Sharon Gibb wins a free walking holiday through our Frequent Walkers Program

Meet Sharon Gibb one of our guests who has benefited from our Frequent Walkers Program.

Having completed 10 pack-free guided walks with us, on that 10th walk Sharon was presented with a voucher for a free 11th 3-day pack-free guided walk. Sharon takes five with us.

Where did you grow up?

I was born in Scone, in the Upper Hunter, NSW and spent all my school years in Maitland. Now living in Newcastle, I have basically just moved up the Hunter Valley towards the coast.

What’s your earliest memory of walking in the great outdoors?

I remember my dad taking us on bushwalks when I was younger. He would show us bird’s nests, beetles etc. He loved Gymea lilies. I’m not sure that I appreciated the outdoors as much when I was young.

A person sits on a large, uniquely shaped rock formation with swirling patterns in earthy tones. Surrounding the formation are various trees and foliage, creating a natural backdrop. The individual appears relaxed and is wearing casual outdoor clothing.

What was the first pack-free guided walk you did with Life’s An Adventure?

My first trip with Life’s An Adventure was their 3-day Walk Three Capes pack-free guided walk in January 2017. Cape Raoul and Cape Hauy were stunning walks. Also the walk from Waterfall Bay to Fortescue  Bay was delightful with a swim to cool down at lunch time. This was all topped off by the wilderness cruise where, apart from the stunning cliffs, we saw both seals and dolphins working together to herd fish. Even the guide said they had never seen that before.

What is it about Life’s An Adventure’s tours that brings you back?

I like these tours because I want to explore remote and uninhabited places without carrying big packs and in the easiest way possible. It’s wonderful to have all the logistics, transport, food etc sorted for me.

A woman in a pink visor and yellow tank top stands in a lush green landscape, playfully posing as if holding a distant waterfall in her hands. Mist hovers above the vegetation.

How have you found the guides on the walks?

The guides on all my walks have been very friendly and accommodating. It’s wonderful when they boil a billy and bring out morning tea. They help with issues like blisters and adjusting packs for novices. There always seems to be options for people who are having trouble and may need to do a smaller walk.

A lot of guests sing the praises of the food and wine on the tours. How have you found this?

The food and wine is over the top. At the end of a long day walking there is wine and cheese before dinner. Then a two-course meal. I’m a very fussy eater but there is always something nice for me. Only problem is after doing all that extra walking I often come home one kilo heavier!

You’ve done 10 Life’s An Adventure tours, please share with us one enduring memory from any walk?

I have two favourite enduring memories; each involve my achievements in climbing mountains with the assistance of the guides. I was extremely lucky with the weather and was able to climb to the top of Cradle Mountain with its three false summits. Afterwards we took a stunning helicopter flight over the area which let you marvel at your achievement. I was also able to get to the top of Mt Amos on the Freycinet Peninsular. This allowed a jaw-dropping view over Wineglass Bay.
