Get totally Zen on our Japan tours and waling holidays. Our 8-day Kumano Kodo pack-free guided walk exploring the 1000-year-old pilgrim trail will show you THAT Japan!
Our walk takes us through UNESCO World Heritage expanse through a tapestry of mountain forests, revealing Grand Shrines nestled amidst the green canopy.
We begin by traversing a section of the northern trail, leading to Koyasan, a serene Buddhist temple town seemingly untouched by the passage of time.
You’ll spend the night in a Buddhist Temple Lodge and have the opportunity to join a meditation class with a resident monk and you’ll learn to be Zen.
However Zen isn’t just sitting cross-legged and meditating.
All manner of activities, from sweeping the garden and chopping vegetables, to the tea ceremony, ikebana (flower arrangement), and landscape gardening are all considered practices of Zen discipline, aimed at focussing the mind and working toward spiritual awakening.
