Experience one of Tassie’s most beautiful day walks

Sep 15, 2026

One of Tasmania’s most beautiful day walks unfolds on day two of our 4-day Tarkine pack-free guided walk – and the adventure begins on the water.

A serene lakeside scene with a boat docked on the right reflects the lush Tarkine Walk Wilderness Experience. The lake mirrors green trees and a partly cloudy sky, while mist hovers over distant hills, enhancing the tranquil atmosphere.

After breakfast at Corinna Wilderness Lodge, your base for most of the trip, you’ll board a private boat and cruise along the pristine Pieman River.

Aerial view of a boat navigating a winding river in the heart of the Tarkine Wilderness. Surrounded by dense, green forest, the calm water creates soft waves behind the boat. Hills rise majestically in the background under a cloudy sky.

Surrounded by ancient rainforest, the river is wonderfully peaceful, with dark, mirror-like waters reflecting the forest and sky. It’s a beautiful way to start the day, so keep your camera handy – there will be plenty of photo opportunities.

A person in a pink shirt sits on a large rock, gazing at the Tasmanian ocean. The scene features an array of uniquely shaped, weathered rocks under a clear blue sky, perfect for those who enjoy Pack Free Walking Holidays.

As you cruise deeper into this remote wilderness, the river winds through dense rainforest, with towering trees and lush vegetation crowding the banks. It’s easy to forget how close you are to civilisation as the only sounds are the gentle hum of the boat and the calls of native birds.

A person in a purple jacket stands on a rocky coastal landscape, part of the stunning Tasmania Walking Tours. They overlook turbulent ocean waves crashing against jagged rocks under a partly cloudy blue sky. Bright green vegetation thrives in the rocky foreground, embodying Life's An Adventure.

The boat drops you where the river meets the sea, from where you’ll follow a section of the Tarkine Coast Track. This is coastline on a truly epic scale, with wild beaches, rocky headlands and coastal meadows stretching towards the horizon. Look out to sea and there’s nothing but ocean between you and South America!

Four people stand on a wooded shore with a calm lake behind them. Dressed in outdoor gear, including jackets and hats, they embrace the Tarkine Walk Wilderness Experience while holding mugs. The background features lush green trees and a cloudy sky.

The Roaring Forties regularly blast this exposed coast, driving huge swells onto the shore and helping create a raw, untamed landscape that feels a world away from everyday life. Keep an eye out for wildlife along the way, with sea eagles, wombats, Tasmanian devils and seabirds all calling this remarkable wilderness home. And, of course, keep your camera ready – you never know what might appear around the next headland.

A cozy living room with wood-paneled walls and a wood-burning stove exudes the warmth of a Tarkine Walk Wilderness Experience. A woman sits on a gray sofa reading a book, surrounded by a wooden coffee table, armchairs, two windows, and warm lighting from hanging lamps.

After a memorable day exploring this extraordinary stretch of coastline, you’ll return to Corinna by boat before settling in for a well-earned dinner at the Tannin Restaurant. Swap stories about the day’s adventures, enjoy a drink and soak up the peaceful atmosphere of one of Tasmania’s most remote wilderness retreats.

A cozy bar with wooden interiors, where a bartender serves two customers reminiscing about their Tarkine Walk Wilderness Experience. Hanging glasses are above the bar, and a small Brazilian flag hangs from the ceiling, casting warm lighting that invites tales of walking holidays in Tasmania.
