Earn your Compostela certificate on one of our classic Camino tours

Earning the Compostela — the official certificate awarded to pilgrims who complete one of the Camino routes — is more than just a recognition of distance travelled.

It is a deeply meaningful symbol that represents a journey not only across miles but also inward, through faith, reflection, resilience, and often, personal transformation.

This might seem like a grand statement, but many of our guests who have walked the 8-day Camino de Santiago or the 8-day Portuguese Camino on our pack-free guided tours would wholeheartedly agree.

Four people with backpacks embark on a walking tour, meandering along the narrow street of a village. A yellow arrow and shell symbol on a blue sign adorns a stone wall, marking the Camino de Santiago route. The sky is clear, and the weather is bright and sunny.

These walks, which conclude in the sacred town of Santiago de Compostela in north-western Spain, leave a lasting impression that goes far beyond the physical effort.

Each pilgrim sets out for their own reasons — some are motivated by spiritual beliefs, others by a desire for personal growth, the need for a challenge or a simple curiosity about the culture and landscapes of this historic region.

A group of tourists on a walking tour stands in front of an ancient stone church with a large, ornate entrance and circular window. A guide in a black dress is speaking to them. The scene unfolds on a cobblestone square surrounded by traditional buildings.

While every journey is unique, all pilgrims discover a shared experience of humility, connection, and introspection along the way.

Historically, pilgrims in the Middle Ages walked from their homes, crossing mountains, valleys, and towns, all to reach the shrine of the Apostle Saint James the Great, located in the majestic cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. This pilgrimage was often an act of devotion, penance or deep faith.

A group of eight hikers, part of a walking tour, stands smiling on a sunny trail next to a metal sculpture depicting pilgrims on horseback. The backdrop showcases wide-open fields and a clear blue sky. Equipped with trekking poles and sun hats, they embrace the outdoor adventure.

Today, the Camino continues to draw people from all over the world. Whether you walk to reconnect with yourself, to celebrate a new chapter in life, or to simply enjoy the peaceful countryside and picturesque villages, the Camino offers space for whatever purpose you bring.

On our guided Camino tours, with the convenience of pack-free walking and expert support, you’ll have the time and freedom to truly engage with your surroundings — both the external landscapes and your own internal reflections.

A weathered wooden signpost on a grassy path reads "GR ST. JACQUES 65 SAUGUES" with a shell symbol, ideal for walking holidays. A blue plaque with a yellow shell and red-and-white stripe mark the route, set against a scenic rural landscape under a cloudy sky.

And when you finally receive your Compostela, you’ll understand that you’ve become part of something timeless — a community of pilgrims stretching back through the centuries. It’s both a celebration of where you’ve been and a quiet beginning of what’s still to come.
