A Red Centre sunset beats them all

Forget Santorini or the Grand Canyon. Our own Red Centre has claimed the top spot as the best place in the world to watch a sunset, and you can witness this remarkable sight every evening on our 5-day or 6-day Larapinta Trail pack free guided walks.

People hiking through a canyon with towering red rock walls under a clear blue sky experience nature's grandeur reminiscent of the Larapinta Trail Walk. The ground is scattered with rocks, and vegetation is sparse but visible along the canyon edges, making life truly feel like an adventure.

This region has long been celebrated for its rich colours and ancient landscape, yet seeing the sun slip behind the ranges transforms the scenery into something truly extraordinary.

A recent survey by the travel website Bounce examined a variety of factors including light pollution levels, expert travel recommendations and popular interest on social media platforms such as Instagram.

A group of hikers stands near a small water body surrounded by towering red rock formations, reminiscent of the Larapinta Trail Walk. Vegetation dots the rocky terrain under a clear sky, while a logo reading "Life's An Adventure" graces the top right corner.

Using these indicators they compiled a list of the ten finest sunset destinations across the globe, and the Red Centre proudly emerged at number one. It is no surprise to anyone who has stood on the trail at dusk and watched the plains glow with shifting colour.

As the sun sinks beyond the horizon the Larapinta Trail moves through deep orange, ruby red, soft pink, dusky purple and finally into cool evening blue. The transition feels almost theatrical, as though the entire landscape has decided to put on a nightly performance. Yet our tours provide much more than beautiful skies.

Drawing on many years of experience in planning pack free guided walks, we have created two outstanding itineraries that guests consistently describe as both enjoyable and memorable. Each journey combines the thrill of exploring this ancient country with the comfort of a carefully organised experience.

On our five day walk in comfort tour you will spend four nights at our centrally located campsite beside the breathtaking Ormiston Gorge. Our six day ultimate tour includes a scenic helicopter flight over the magnificent West MacDonnell Ranges.

From the air you can appreciate the wide desert, the dramatic canyons and the intricate patterns shaped by nature over countless millennia, and if the timing is right you may even catch that unforgettable sunset from above.
