5 Day Kimberley Explorer

(Itinerary in reverse with variations on accommodation in the Eastern Kimberley)

Day 1: Kununurra – Amalia Gorge walk & El Questro Gorge walk

This morning meet your guides at Kununurra Country Club Resort, Kununurra at 7:30am to drive out to the Eastern Kimberley where we’ll walk the Amalia Gorge and El Questro Gorge. The drive will take around 1h20mins. The Amalia Gorge walk, a 3.4 km return trek to the waterfall and plunge pool takes over an hour and passes by several small flowing waterfalls and crystal clear pools, including a lovely half-way pool. The beginning of the walk is over a rocky dry river bed, with some tough narrow areas of the trail, but the scenery is worth it. Afterwards, we have lunch at El Questro Station which will be our accommodation for the night. El Questro is a 700,000-acre cattle station in the Eastern Kimberley Region. We’ve chosen this location due to its character, atmosphere, charm and stunning nearby walks. With live entertainment most nights, you’ll love the atmosphere of this traditional Cattle Ranch. Enjoy the comfort of a modern garden or river view bungalows with ensuites. In the afternoon, relax or join an afternoon walk to El Questro Gorge (7.2 km – 3 to 5 hours). This trail passes along a gorge flanked by sheer cliffs lush tropical vegetation and crystal clear pools. Under the rainforest canopy, a diverse ecosystem thrives and the surrounding cliff faces are up to 1800 million years old and known as King Leopold sandstone. When we reach the end, cool off in the pretty waterhole before tracing our steps. Notes: Walks in this region, will depend on the conditions and may be adjusted to suit. Tonight enjoy dinner in the Steakhouse Verandah Restaurant enjoying fine dining featuring local produce such as barramundi and succulent beef.

At the end of the walk enjoy a dip in the beautiful freshwater pools surrounded by lush vegetation. Afterwards, we return to El Questro for a delicious lunch. After both of these fabulous walks we’ll head to our accommodation for the next night at Home Valley Station (staying in Riverside Suites) located on 615,000-acre historic cattle station which also has holiday accommodation. Day 3: Emma Gorge Walk – Lake Argyle

This morning enjoy breakfast before walking to Emma Gorge, part of the Cockburn Ranges, located within El Questro Wilderness Park. This scenic trail takes us through a gorge characterised by cliff face escarpments reaching up to 120 metres high on both sides of the trail. See the ever-changing vegetation as you make your way along the gorge until you reach the crystal clear pools and a 65-metre waterfall. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the pools to cool off before enjoying lunch. After lunch, our journey takes us to Lake Argyle, the jewel of the Kimberley! Lake Argyle is located south of Kununurra in the remote Kimberley region. Our journey will take around 2hr15mins. Day 4: Pint Pot Bay Exploration Walk

After a hearty breakfast we will cruise across the lake to start our walk for the day. The boat will take us passed many bays and inlets that make this vast body of water so incredibly unique. We may see wallabies, wallaroos, fish, birdlife and freshwater crocs along the way. We will be dropped off to enjoy the Pint Pot Bay Exploration Walk, a 6-8km walk depending on which option you choose. This walk is part of the Southern Carr Boyd Ranges which, from afar, seem arid and barren. But once up close reveal their hidden delights with cool gorges, waterfalls, and lovely, fern-lined pools just begging for someone to swim in them! Some of the best bushwalking tracks in the Kimberley can be found here. This walk is trackless and a unique opportunity to walk in the Kimberly Wilderness. The walk is medium to hard in grade and ranges in terrain with some fairly steep parts onto the plateau, but once on top walking becomes easier and the amazing views on top of the Carr Boyd Ranges make it worthwhile. Optional: An additional 2 km diversion into Little Revolver Creek to a secluded waterpools is available to those who want to venture further. After our walk we’ll head back to Lake Argyle Resort for lunch and an afternoon dip in the stunning infinity pool taking in the beauty that surrounds us.

Late this afternoon we’ll enjoy a private sunset cruise before enjoying dinner in the restaurant, served with wine.
