4 Day Six Foot Track Walk

(Due to recent weather conditions current walks are closed – below is the updated itinerary)

Day 1: Arrival Day Katoomba

ITINERARY: Today is an arrival day. Make your own way to the historic Carrington Hotel in the heart of Katoomba, a local landmark. You will be staying in a Colonial Room (king or twin). Enjoy a day at leisure to explore this beautiful town. Tonight enjoy dinner in the hotel’s restaurant.

Day 2: Katoomba – Porter Pass – Blackheath – Coxs River

MEETNG TIME: 8.30am Carrington Hotel foyer

TRANSFER TIMES: Morning: 10-minute transfer from the Carrington Hotel to the start of our walk. Afternoon: walk directly into our accommodation.

TRAIL NOTES: Walk: Approximately 16kms. 6 hours walking with breaks. Medium grade.

TERRAIN: The walk starts on a wide, well-formed gravel track before becoming a narrow, natural foot track and later using wide, gravel roads.. There is a steep descent with formed steps. Some sections of the track can be uneven with slippery rocks and there are some creek crossings and stiles (ladders over fences). The later part of the track is undulating.

FLEXIBLE WALKING: Today’s walk can be shortened for those that don’t want to walk the full distance. Just chat to your guides during lunch and you can travel with the support vehicle to the accommodation.

WALKING ITINERARY: Meet your guides in the foyer of the Carrington Hotel Katoomba from here we transfer to the start of the trail. We make our way from Porters Pass to Blackheath. Make sure you look up on the way to see the dramatic views above you. We enjoy a lunch stop at a local winery. After lunch, we follow the rolling green hills until we reach the pretty Coxs river. From here we cross the historic Bowtell Swing Bridge and exciting river crossing (for those that want to avoid the bridge our guide can help you cross the river an alternative way).  We follow along the banks of the river until we arrive at our accommodation at the Six Foot Track Eco Bunkhouse. This accommodation is ideally located on the trail. We have chosen this accommodation due to its location near the pretty Coxs River and the fact that the nearest accommodation from here is over an hour away’s drive away. The accommodation here is a basic bunkhouse overlooking the trees with an outdoor entertaining area and fireplace. As they are off the grid there is no power or running water. The accommodation has a basic camp shower, however there is nothing better than after a day’s walk taking a swim in the crystal clear waters of the Coxs River below. Afterwards, sit on the deck and take in the serenity whilst dinner is cooked for you. Tonight enjoy a hearty dinner served with wine prepared by your guides. The beds at the Eco Bunkhouse are large bunk beds with privacy curtains in the one room with sheets and blankets. Guests have the option of upgrading to their own dome tent and mattress which will be set up for you when you arrive below the bunkhouse near the river.

Day 3: Coxs River to Black Range

TRANSFER TIMES: Morning: walk directly from our accommodation to the trail. Afternoon: 15 minutes transfer to our accommodation.

TRAIL NOTES: Walk: Approximately 17kms. 6 hours walking with breaks. Medium to Hard grade.

TERRAIN: “6ft” wide undulating trail with a firm surface and lots of uphills. 800m cumulative ascent for the day.

FLEXIBLE WALKING: Today’s walk can be shortened for those that don’t want to walk the full distance. Just chat to your guides before setting out this morning and we will arrange our support vehicle to drop you off later avoiding the morning 400m uphill and allowing you to have a relaxing morning at Coxs River.

WALKING ITINERARY: Enjoy breakfast on the deck before we set out on our walk. Today has many uphill sections so walking poles will come in handy as we will be asscending 800 metres over the course of the day. Our morning walk will be the most challenging of the day. We follow the 6ft wide trail as it snakes it way up the hill passing through wooded country to Mini Mini saddle where we stop for lunch. Make sure you stop often to see the views back over the valley as you make your way up to Black Range. Once we reach Black Range our guide will transfer us down to Jenolan Caves House for our evening stay. Option to extend todays walking to Jenolan Caves cottages instead of doing this section of the track tomorrow. After a refreshing shower, join the group in the delightful Chisholm’s Restaurant to enjoy a two-course meal featuring local produce and wine and chat about the day’s adventures.
