Bruny Island is an untouched wonder situated just off the southern-east coast of Tasmania, a 15 minute ferry ride from mainland Tasmania.. The island contains an appealing mix of towering dolerite cliffs, long sandy beaches, rich heathlands and eucalypt forests. This wonderful diverse landscapes offers diverse flora and fauna as well as many threatened and endemic species.
On our 3 day walking experience you will explore the natural delights of the island’s diverse landscapes and wildlife as well as tasting the tantalising local produce food which will undoubtedly leave you wanting more, including extravagant cheese, fresh oysters and mellow wine.
No need to carry heavy packs or sleep in tents, this walk has been designed for those looking for an affordable multi day walking experience with all the creature comforts. Your nights will be spent in boutique eco-friendly accommodation at beautiful Adventure Bay. All meals will be prepared for you, featuring local produce and wines, so you can sit back, relax and put your feet up after an enjoyable day’s hiking. This is small group touring at its best with a maximum of 8 guests per tour.
A Pack Free Walk
One of the biggest drawcards of this tour, is that our guests won’t be asked to carry their clothes or overnight bags for the entire tour, this is a Pack Free Walk. This is a big advantage for our guests, in that you will avoid carrying an additional 8kg or more on your back. With Life’s An Adventure you will carry as little as your water bottle, camera, lunch and hat each day!
2 nights at Adventure Bay Retreat
Getting a good nights rest, is an essential part of any walking holiday. We won’t ask you to sleep in tents, on our walking tour you will stay at the charming Adventure Bay Retreat. With a large stone fireplace, outdoor and indoor dining and a large lounge area to relax, we know you’ll have a comfortable stay and a restful night’s sleep no matter what the weather.

On day 3 enjoy a ‘Wow” moment when we finish our walking tour with a superb Bruny Island cruise. See amazing sea caves and sea cliffs of Bruny Island and if we are enjoy some up close marine life encounters such as dolphins, seals and whales. An incredible way to finish our journey.

Almost 100% Local Tasmanian Produce
Bruny Island is famous for its wonderful local produce including cheeses, wines, berries, oysters and smoked meats. An important element of your walking experience with Life’s an Adventure is the delicious local food we provide each day. Your walking days will finish with a stop at a local establishment to sample and select food for our evening meals. For example on day 2, we stop at Bruny Island Winery to enjoy wine and cheese tasting and select our wines for our evening meal that night. Where possible the majority of our food we provide is sourced directly from the island, allowing you the chance to sample the local specialities as well as support the local businesses.
Our all-inclusive tours feature a fully supported walk with all the creature comforts.
The day will commence in Hobart at 8.00am at the Hotel Grand Chancellor where you will be transferred to Kettering to join our cruise to Bruny Island. From here we will enjoy a scenic drive through the original homeland of the Nuenonne Aboriginal people. The island has a wide range of rich history, remarkable scenery and a wide-range wildlife which you will be a witness of. Our walking adventure begins with us setting foot onto the Bruny Island Neck Game Reserve taking us to the remarkable Cape Queen Elizabeth. Surrounded by lagoons and dunes this 4 hour walk is features white beaches and headlands with spectacular views. Features of this walk include open dry sclerophyll bushland, the home of the bennetts wallaby, a pretty lagoon,stunning beaches and fantastic views from the summit of the Cape
At the end of our walk we head to our accommodation in the seaside town of Adventure Bay, a popular location in the 1700s for early explorers who stopped here to replenish supplies. En-route we will stop at the local cheese factory and oyster factory to sample some produce.
Spend the evening in beautiful eco accommodation at Adventure Bay Retreat. Nestled into the open bushland of Adventure Bay on 33 acres, the lodge has a large living area featuring a stone fireplace, rich natural timbers and high celiings. Tonight we travel to the other side of the island for dinner at the only resturant on the island, offering great local specialities and a great local atmosphere.
Enjoy a hearty hot and cold breakfast before we set out for our walking experience. Today we travel to the other side of the island to explore the East Cloudy Head within South Bruny National Park. On this walk you will enjoy expansive seascapes and rugged coastlines. Discover the amazing flora shaped by wind and seaspray, with the high chance of encountering an echidna or two along the way and see Cape Bruny Lighthouse. We return via Bruny Island winery for cheese and wine tasting and select our wines for the evening, before returning to our eco-accommodation at Adventure Bay for a relaxing dinner.
Day three will start with a fantastic breakfast, we pack our bags before heading off to explore Fluted Cape with its 272 metre high dolerite sea cliffs. Our walk begin along the beach as we follow the coastline to Grass Point passing through tall forest dominated by Tasmanian Blue Gums. Grass Point was once a whaling station in the early 1800s. From here we head up a steep climb to the summit of Fluted Cape (272m) and admire its beautiful organ pipe formations. From here our walk will carry you onto the cliff tops of the stunning dolerite cliffs with a distant view of Tasman Island and stunning views over Adventure Bay and Cape Queen Elizabeth. In the afternoon we join a wilderness cruise exploring Bruny Island by sea. Before making our way back to Hobart. Arriving back on Hobart at approximately 6.30pm.
2 nights accommodation
Spend two nights at the Adventure Bay Retreat. This eco friendly lodge has been carefully designed with a large living area featuring natural timbers, beautiful stone fireplaces and large outdoor balcony. Nestled on 33 acres this private retreat is surrounded by wallabies including the white wallaby and is only 400 metre walk to Adventure Bay Beach.

This walk is suitable for those who are looking for a walking / hiking holiday experience. A good level of fitness is needed to complete this walk. You must be capable of walking between 5 – 6 hours a day along formed tracks and beaches. We’ll take the pace at a level that suits everyone, with plenty of rest stops and opportunities to take photos during each day. Please note if you have any medical conditions which may affect your walking we suggest you seek medical advice before booking this tour.
All our guests will just need to carry a small day pack with water, camera and any small personal items you want access to during the day. Your overnight bags will remain at your accom
On both nights we you will be staying at Adventure Bay Retreat, with comfortable beds and hot showers.
Your touring package includes 2 nights accommodation in eco friendly accommodation. Pretty much all you’ll need to bring is your clothes and your personal items packed in a medium sized overnight bag. Please ask your hotel to store any large suitcases. Once final payments are received you will be emailed a Clothing and Gear checklist in your Pre-Departure Information.

We believe the premier time to do this walk is between October and April when the weather is best for hiking. We therefore only run this guided walk during this period.

A $250 deposit is required at time of booking to secure your place with final payments due 8 weeks prior to departure. We meet in Hobart at 8.00am at the Grand Chancellor Hotel on day 1. On the final day you will return to the Grand Chancellor Hotel at approximately 6.30pm.
We run our tours with a maximum of 8 walkers.
All tours are subject to minimum numbers. Before you book, you are welcome to ring our office to check which tour dates are guaranteed to run. If minimum numbers are not met for your booked date we will call you to reschedule to another date. It is advised if you are not booked on a guaranteed departure, that when booking flights you choose tickets which allow you to amend your dates if required.
We often get people who injure themselves before their tour or something unexpected happens and they are unable to make it to Tasmania.
