6 Foot Track Walk Frequently asked questions

How fit do I need to be to do this walk?

A moderate or average level of fitness is needed to complete this walk. The Six Foot Track walk is graded as medium and is 44km - about 19 hours walking over 3 days.

The morning of day 1 is all downhill as you descend the Katoomba escarpment to the Megalong Valley, with the remainder of the day walking over undulating fields - approximately 15kms / 6 hours of walking.

Day 2 is uphill for most of the day from Coxs River to Black Range at 1200m above sea level - approximately 19kms / 7 hours of walking. Whilst Day 3 we descend into Jenolan Caves - approximately 10kms / 4 hours of walking.

We'll take the pace at a level that suits everyone, with plenty of rest stops and opportunities to take photos during each day.

Is there a portered walk option?

All our deluxe package guests will have their overnight bags transported to the campsite each night leaving you free to relax and enjoy the walk instead of struggling with a large backpack.

What's the difference between the deluxe, super deluxe and standard package?

Deluxe and Super Deluxe are all-inclusive packages for those that wanting to just enjoy the walk and scenery and have everything else done for them. Your bags are transported each day to the campsite, your tent is set up and ready for your arrival, with your bags waiting for you inside your tent. With the Deluxe package you stay in a deluxe dome tent with a deluxe mattress, whilst those that choose Super Deluxe will enjoy a luxury stand up touring tent with off the ground beds Our Standard package is for those that want the challenge of an authentic hiking /trekking experience, carrying their own overnight pack and supplying and setting up their own tent and mattress. With the Standard Package you'll also need to pay extra for your transfers back from Jenolan Caves.

What is the most popular package.. deluxe or standard ?

While 98% of our guests choose the deluxe or super deluxe package and have everything done for them, we still like to offer the standard package for the few that want to take the challenge of experiencing an authentic hiking experience.

So what will I need to carry?

All our guests (except Standard package) will just need to carry a small day pack with water, camera and any small personal items you want access to during the day. You won't even need to carry your lunch as your guide will carry the groups lunch.

What gear is provided in the deluxe and super deluxe package?

All your camping gear and equipment including tents, mattresses, all your eating utensils, the campsite's cooking equipment. Pretty much all you'll need to bring is your clothes, a torch/flashlight and your personal items packed in a small overnight bag. Please ask your hotel to store any large suitcases. Once final payments are received you will be emailed a Clothing and Gear checklist in your Pre-Departure Information.

Do you cater for different dietary requirements?

Yes we can provide for any special dietary requirements and amend all of our menus to suit your needs. When booking please specify your special dietary requirements giving us as much information as you can including what sort of food you like.

Am I able to organise an exclusive group departure?

Yes we can organise an exclusive Six Foot Track group departure on the date of your choice... find out more.

If I am travelling on my own do I need to pay a single supplement?

No we believe you shouldn't be penalised for travelling solo, infact we have many guests travelling on their own so you won't be charged an additional fees. Depending on numbers in the group you may be required to share a tent with someone of the same gender.

What time does this adventure start and finish?

We meet at Nellies Glen (2kms from Katoomba at 9.30am. Finish times will depend on another of factors including walking pace of the group, generally we arrive into Jenolan Caves around 1.30pm with free time to enjoy lunch (own expense) or take a cave tour before joining a shuttle bus back to Katoomba. (approximately 1.5 hours drive). If you are being transferred back to Sydney your transfers will be done by the Life's An Adventure vehicle and departure time will depend on whether guests are doing caves tours.

I'm driving to the Blue Mountains where should I park my car?
Parking is available at Nellies Glen - the start of the walk, however many people feel uncomfortable leaving their cars here as it is quite remote. We leave that decision to you, none of our clients who have parked there in the past has had an issue. Alternatively you can park in Katoomba and organise a pick up  from Life's An Adventure for $10. There is no secure parking in Katoomba, however many of our past guests have chosen to park near the Police Station on the main road.

How many people are in each walking group?

We run our tours with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 15 walkers.
