Leave No Trace Principles:
As an outdoor adventure tour operator, whose business is reliant on the environment, it is essential that Life’s An Adventure is committed to environmental sustainability. We are recognised as a Blue Mountains Sustainable Business and we practice the following “Leave No Trace” 7 Principles:
Plan & Prepare
- We maintain an NPWS EcoPass to ensure Environmental outcomes and sufficient standards are maintained.
- Regular communication with NPWS to ensure all tracks are open and are in a safe and sustainable condition.
Travel & Camp
- We use established campsites if available.
- We use site campsites where there will be a minimum impact.
- We avoid levelling or digging drains
- No modification to a protected environment, either permanent or temporary, is permitted.
- Washing of utensils, clothes and bodies is done 50m away from any water source.
- No soap, detergent or food matter is allowed to enter water.
- Toilet units are used on supported overnight tours
- Paper, tampons and sanitary pads are carried out.
- Toileting is at least 200m away from any water source & least 50m from any trail, hut or campsite.
- If a bush toilet is required; matter is buried approximately 20cm (6‐8") in the ground.
Rubbish Removal
- All rubbish is taken out
- Campsites are left in a cleaner state than before arriving
- Garbage bags are provided for each day activity – all litter is collected into bags and carried out by the Leader /guide.
- All overnight supported walks Logistic Manager are responsible for ensuring all garbage is loaded into the vehicle.
Leave what you find
- All activities are centred around enjoying and conserving the natural environment
- No damage or removal of native plant species is permitted
Minimise Campfires
- Gas cooking is used in all locations where fires are not permitted
- Fires are only lit in National Parks provided fireplaces
- Fires are not lit during fire ban periods..
- We always have on hand for our overnight journeys a fire extinguisher and bring in our own firewood for these
areas.
- Fires are completely extinguished at night and prior to leaving campsite.
Respect Wildlife
- We encourage our participants during our pre‐activity brief to appreciate and respect the local wildlife. NPWS
guidelines are used for safe approach of wildlife and marine animals.
- No feeding of native animals or birds is permitted
Be Considerate
- All participants are briefed on bushwalking, mountain biking and kayaking etiquette,
- Where a track exists stay on it, avoiding shortcuts.
- If no track exists, spread the group out to minimise the damage on the environment
- Consider others – share the track/campsite ‐ Keep left on trails when walking or riding and single file when you
can’t see ahead or around corners.
In our Office
In our office we implement sustainable practices including recycling waste paper, double sided printing, switching off lights and computers when not in use, using ceramic mugs instead of plastic or Styrofoam cups and using natural ventilation. In addition, we do all of our booking and documentation electronically to reduce the amount of paper use and waste.
